ANIMUS

ANIMUS is a set of enameled ceramics sculptures I made in my workshop during an enchanted break that lasted a year. I have worked with ceramic for ten years and this break allowed me to go deeper in the exploration of my own universe. ANIMUS sounds like ANIMAL and evokes, by its etymology, what is related to the soul. I have for a long time created a range of human-animal hybrids, all blended together in countless combinations. They can be seen as psychological portraits arranged like riddles. Colourful snakes, crystal horns, galvanized flowers, meteors, foxes, masks, toads, crocodiles… Thus, I developed a vocabulary made of symbols that evoke human identity in its complexity, its contradictions and its poetry. With these works, the animal figure is shown as an alter ego : an animalistic counterpart to mankind with soft or disturbing shapes that inexorably places it in an inescapable equation.
